CCTV Installation & Maintenance, Johannesburg

See what matters. When it matters. From anywhere.

How Can Professional CCTV Installation & Maintenance Protect Your Property?

When it comes to securing your home or business, a cheap or DIY camera system often fails at the worst possible time. Blurry footage that cannot identify a licence plate. Blind spots at critical entry points. Cameras that stop recording during load shedding. No remote access when you need to check your property. And when something does go wrong, there is no support — you are on your own.

Professional CCTV installation is about designing a system that works when you need it most — not just on the day it is installed, but years later when a real security event occurs. That requires proper camera placement, correct lens selection, structured cabling, backup power planning, and integration with the rest of your security infrastructure.

My Security Guy has spent over 20 years building bespoke CCTV installations across Johannesburg — from discreet residential systems in Sandton and Dainfern to high-coverage commercial deployments in office parks, warehouses, and retail environments. We design systems to deliver clarity, control, and peace of mind — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We work exclusively with Provision-ISR — a premium surveillance brand trusted globally for high-definition imaging, AI-powered analytics, and long-term reliability. Whether you need a single camera to cover a driveway or a 40-camera deployment across multiple buildings, we design the system to match your risk profile, your property layout, and your operational requirements.
And just as importantly: we maintain what we install. CCTV systems require ongoing care — firmware updates, lens cleaning, storage management, and periodic hardware checks. Our maintenance service ensures your system continues to perform at the level you expect, year after year.

Key principle: CCTV installation is not about selling you the maximum number of cameras. It is about placing the right cameras in the right locations to give you the coverage you need — and nothing you do not.

What Makes Our CCTV Installations in Johannesburg Different?

There are hundreds of CCTV installers in Johannesburg. Many will offer you a lower price. Here is what you get when you work with My Security Guy that you will not get elsewhere — and why it matters in the long run.

Genuinely Bespoke System Design — No Cookie-Cutter Setups

Every CCTV installation begins with a site visit and a proper risk assessment. We walk your property, identify your vulnerable points, understand your concerns, and design a system specifically for your layout. Camera positioning is optimised for coverage, not convenience. Lens selection is matched to the distance and field of view required. Recording settings are configured for your retention requirements, not left at factory defaults.

You receive a site map showing every proposed camera location, with coverage zones marked. You know exactly what you are getting before installation begins.

Provision-ISR Hardware — Premium Quality, Proven Reliability

Provision-ISR is not a consumer brand you will find in retail stores. It is professional-grade surveillance hardware designed for commercial deployments, critical infrastructure, and high-end residential installations. The image sensors deliver sharp, colour-accurate footage even in challenging light conditions. The housings are built to withstand South African UV exposure and temperature variation. The firmware is actively maintained and updated.

My Security Guy is a certified Provision-ISR installer — which means we have access to technical support, advanced training, and warranty backing that generic resellers simply do not receive.

AI-Enhanced Monitoring — Smart Detection, Fewer False Alarms

Modern CCTV systems go far beyond recording everything that moves. Provision-ISR cameras include AI-powered analytics that can distinguish between a person, a vehicle, an animal, and environmental motion like swaying trees or rain. This dramatically reduces false alarms while ensuring real threats trigger instant notifications.

Features include:

  • human detection (ignoring animals and shadows),
  • vehicle detection and licence plate recognition,
  • loitering alerts (someone lingering in a restricted area),
  • line-crossing detection (virtual tripwires across driveways or gates), and
  • intrusion zones (motion within defined perimeters).

These features are not theoretical — they are configured and tested as part of every installation where they are relevant.

Neat, Professional Installation — Not Just Functional, but Discreet

CCTV installation leaves visible evidence: cables, conduits, junction boxes, and cameras themselves. My Security Guy’s installation teams are trained to minimise visual impact wherever possible. Cables are routed through roof spaces, concealed in conduit, or run along existing cable trays. Junction boxes are positioned out of sight. Camera placement considers both coverage and aesthetics.

When we finish an installation, your property is more secure — but it does not look like a fortress.

Long-Term Support and Maintenance — We Do Not Disappear After Installation

The weakest point of most CCTV installations is what happens after the installer leaves. My Security Guy offers structured maintenance and support services designed to keep your system performing at peak capacity. Firmware updates, hard drive replacements, camera realignment, lens cleaning, and periodic health checks are all part of the service. When something does go wrong, you have a direct line to the team that installed your system — not a call centre.

What Are the Benefits of Professionally Installed CCTV Systems?

A well-designed CCTV system delivers value across multiple dimensions — security, operations, insurance, and legal protection. Here is what a professional installation gives you that a DIY or budget system cannot match.

24/7 Surveillance with Smart Alerts and Instant Notifications

Provision-ISR systems can be configured to send push notifications to your phone the moment a defined event occurs — a person detected in your garden at 2am, a vehicle entering your driveway, or motion detected inside your office after hours. These alerts include a snapshot or short video clip, so you can assess the situation immediately without reviewing hours of footage.

Smart alerts mean you respond to real threats — not false alarms triggered by cats, rain, or moving shadows.

Remote Monitoring from Anywhere in the World

Every system we install includes secure mobile and web access. Whether you are at home, at the office, or overseas, you can view live feeds, review recorded footage, and manage camera settings from your phone or laptop. For business owners managing multiple sites, a single dashboard gives you visibility across all locations simultaneously.

Remote access is secured with encrypted connections and multi-factor authentication — your footage is accessible to you, and no one else.

Scalable Systems That Grow with Your Property or Business

CCTV installations are rarely static. Businesses expand. Properties are renovated. New risks emerge. My Security Guy designs systems with expansion in mind — spare channels on recorders, network infrastructure that can support additional cameras, and flexible software licensing that scales as you grow.

Adding cameras to an existing installation is straightforward when the foundation is built correctly from the start.

Enhanced Deterrence — Both Visible and Discreet Camera Placement

The best camera placement strategy combines both visible and covert cameras. Visible cameras at entry points and perimeter boundaries act as a deterrent — potential intruders know they are being recorded. Discreet cameras in secondary locations provide evidential coverage without advertising their presence.

We design placements based on your security goals: pure deterrence, pure evidence capture, or a combination of both.

Evidential-Quality Footage for Insurance and Legal Proceedings

When a security incident occurs, the quality of your footage determines whether it is useful or worthless.

Provision-ISR cameras record at resolutions high enough to identify faces, read licence plates, and capture fine detail even at a distance. Footage is timestamped, tamper-evident, and exportable in formats accepted by South African Police Services and insurance assessors.

In dispute resolution, insurance claims, and legal proceedings, high-quality CCTV footage is often the deciding factor.

Integration with Access Control, Alarms, and Gate Automation

CCTV performs best when integrated with your other security layers. An access control event can trigger a camera to start recording. An alarm activation can switch cameras to a higher frame rate. A gate opening can bookmark the corresponding footage for easy retrieval. My Security Guy designs integrated security ecosystems where every component reinforces the others.

What's Included in Our CCTV Maintenance Services?

Even the best CCTV systems require ongoing care. Cameras get dirty. Hard drives fail. Firmware needs updating. Without regular maintenance, system performance degrades — and you only discover the problem after a security incident, when it is too late.
My Security Guy’s CCTV maintenance service is designed to keep your system performing at the level you expect, year after year. Here is what is included.

Regular Equipment Inspections and Fault Prevention

Scheduled site visits include physical inspection of all cameras, recorders, power supplies, and cabling. We check for: lens cleanliness and focus drift, housing integrity and weatherproofing, cable condition and connector security, hard drive health and storage capacity, network stability and bandwidth adequacy, and power supply voltage and UPS battery condition.

Issues are identified and resolved before they cause system downtime.

Preventative Servicing to Extend System Lifespan

CCTV hardware has a finite service life, but proper maintenance extends it significantly. Lens cleaning improves image quality. Hard drive replacement before failure prevents data loss. Firmware updates fix bugs and patch security vulnerabilities. Cable and connector maintenance prevents intermittent faults that are difficult to diagnose.

A well-maintained CCTV system can deliver 10+ years of reliable service. A neglected system may fail within three.

Software Updates, Troubleshooting, and Performance Optimisation

Provision-ISR releases regular firmware updates that improve camera performance, add new features, and address security vulnerabilities. My Security Guy’s maintenance service includes: firmware updates applied and tested, recorder software upgrades, mobile app compatibility checks, user account audits (removing old users, updating passwords), and storage optimisation (adjusting retention periods, compression settings).

You stay current with the latest features and security patches without having to manage it yourself.

System Upgrades to Match Evolving Security Risks

Security requirements change. A home office becomes a business premises. A warehouse expands into a new building. A retail store experiences a spike in internal theft. My Security Guy’s maintenance service includes an annual system review where we assess whether your current coverage still matches your risk profile — and recommend targeted upgrades where they make sense.

This might mean adding cameras to new blind spots, upgrading older cameras to AI models, increasing storage capacity, or integrating with newly installed access control or alarm systems.

Already have a CCTV system installed by another company?

We offer maintenance and upgrade services for existing installations — even if we did not install the original system. Book a system health check and we will assess your current setup and recommend any improvements.

Why Choose My Security Guy as Your CCTV Installer?

There is no shortage of CCTV installers in Johannesburg. Here is what sets My Security Guy apart — and why our clients stay with us long after installation.

Deep Local Expertise in Johannesburg Security Risks

We have been installing CCTV systems in Johannesburg for over 20 years. We understand the specific risks that Sandton estates face. We know the coverage requirements for Midrand warehouses. We have seen what works in Rosebank office parks and what does not. That local knowledge shapes every system we design.

Honest, No-Upsell Advice — We Recommend What You Need

We do not maximise the number of cameras to maximise the quote. If your property can be covered effectively with six cameras instead of ten, we will tell you. If a budget camera is sufficient for a low-risk location, we will not push a premium model.

Our role is to design the most effective system within your budget — not to oversell.

Long-Term Client Relationships and Training

Our relationship with clients does not end at installation. We provide comprehensive handover training so you understand how to use your system confidently. We remain available for questions, adjustments, and support as your needs evolve. And when you are ready to expand or upgrade, we already understand your system — there is no onboarding a new contractor.

Premium Product Range with Proven Performance

We install Provision-ISR exclusively because it performs. We have tested cheaper brands. We have seen them fail. Provision-ISR delivers the image quality, durability, and support that professional installations demand — and we stand behind every system we install with full warranty backing.

What CCTV Technologies Do We Use?

My Security Guy installs and supports a focused range of proven, professional-grade CCTV technologies. We do not chase every new product release — we invest in platforms that deliver consistent, long-term performance.

Provision-ISR IP Cameras — Crystal-Clear, High-Definition Video

Provision-ISR cameras record at resolutions from 2MP (1080p Full HD) up to 8MP (4K Ultra HD), depending on the coverage requirement and budget. Higher resolutions deliver more detail — critical for identifying faces, licence plates, and fine features at a distance. All cameras support wide dynamic range (WDR) imaging, which balances bright and dark areas in the same frame — essential for South African conditions where glare and shadow are constant challenges.

AI Motion Detection and Smart Analytics

AI-powered detection filters out irrelevant motion and focuses on genuine security events. Features include: human and vehicle detection (ignoring animals and environmental motion), facial detection and recognition (for access control integration), licence plate recognition (ANPR), perimeter intrusion detection (virtual fences), and object left/removed detection (unattended baggage, stolen items).

These analytics run on the camera itself — no additional server hardware required.

Secure Remote Access via Mobile and Web Applications

Every Provision-ISR system includes access to Provision Cloud — a secure platform for remote viewing, playback, and system management. Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android.

Web access works from any modern browser. All connections are encrypted end-to-end, and multi-factor authentication is supported for high-security environments.

Flexible Storage Options — Cloud, NVR, or Hybrid

CCTV footage can be stored locally on a network video recorder (NVR) installed on your premises, uploaded to cloud storage for off-site redundancy, or managed via a hybrid model where high-priority footage is cloud-backed while routine recordings stay local. My Security Guy recommends storage configurations based on your retention requirements, internet bandwidth, and budget.

Typical retention periods range from 7 days for low-risk residential to 90+ days for high-security commercial installations.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) — Simplified Cabling and Backup Power

All Provision-ISR IP cameras support Power over Ethernet (PoE), which delivers both data and power over a single network cable. This simplifies installation, reduces cable clutter, and makes backup power planning straightforward — a single UPS on the PoE switch keeps all cameras operational during load shedding.

About a month ago my wife and I were looking to install a new electric fence at our property. We didn’t know any contractors and weren’t persuaded by our neighbourhood WhatsApp recommendations. So we looked online.

When we do this – for anything, electricians, plumbers – we usually query between three to five contractors and ask them for a guideline price so we have an idea what we’d be in for. We’ve found the first responders are usually the best. Those that give us a story about how little we know or how they need to see the site first, we discard.

Quintin was the first to respond to us. He chatted to me while busy on another site, got what we wanted and said he’d email us an indicative price that evening, which he did. We already met with him at site by the time most other contractors were first responding.

During the walk-through I got the impression Quintin would give us exactly what we wanted but, because of the nature of our site, he gently made suggestions to the contrary. For example, we have an odd bit of wall that sticks out of the normal boundary circumference and he said it would be easy to electrify it instead of leaving it open and exposed as we intended. The suggestions were based on his experience. Then he left it for us to decide.

He could also be persuaded. He prefers a fence angled outwards because it presents a greater obstacle and deterrent. We preferred upright because of aesthetics. He agreed about the aesthetics but still preferred the greater deterrent. He ultimately installed upright because that’s what we wanted. Also, the neighbour’s fence was in the way of what we intended and, without getting complicated, he came up with a solution of bracing our fence without compromising.

After speaking with him, Quintin was the obvious choice. We appointed him that evening. At the time we had other contractors paving and installing gates. After Quintin and his team got going the other contractors more than once got in his way and destroyed parts of his installation. Not that we heard about it. He resolved the issue directly with them (and in such a way that no one became hostile) and by the time we learned about it everything had been sorted. He’s a team player.

Also, after the site visit Quintin gave us our price and stuck to it. There was none of this being told afterwards that this wasn’t part of the quote and that wasn’t included. If there was an additional cost he told us about it up front. We wanted stainless steel but because our boundary wall is so long he recommended a larger energizer – a smaller one would work but it would struggle. We knew all of this going in.

My wife and I never considered that our boundary wall with its columns and parapets created odd angles and shapes. It didn’t occur to us that matching an upright fence to it and where it met the sliding gates would require major gymnastics. Quintin had to bend standard uprights to match the angles and shapes and ultimately our fence looks and fits our wall like a well-made suit – no shortcuts.

As a last note, we have an existing Ajax alarm system linked to ADT on our property. Quintin’s fence installation needed to integrate with it. We were doubtful it could be done. Sure, it was theoretically possible, but practically we doubted it would work as we imagined. But it can be done. And it does work like we imagined. I was with Quintin at the final integration, when he was on the phone with Ajax, and he knew as much if not more about integrating fence and alarm than the Ajax representatives.

Quintin’s fence will probably last 100 years so we’ll probably never get to use him again. But we can definitely recommend him.

We hope this helps you in your search.

Frequently Asked Questions About CCTV Installation & Maintenance

Most residential installations are completed in a single day. A straightforward 4-6 camera system for a home can be installed, configured, and handed over within 6-8 hours. Larger commercial installations with 15+ cameras, extensive cable runs, and integration with access control or alarm systems typically take two to five days depending on site complexity. We provide a realistic project timeline at the quotation stage.

Yes — remote viewing is standard on every system we install. Provision-ISR cameras connect to Provision Cloud, which provides secure access via iOS and Android mobile apps or any web browser. You can view live feeds, review recorded footage, receive push notifications, and manage system settings from anywhere with an internet connection. All remote connections are encrypted and support multi-factor authentication for high-security environments.

AI analytics (human detection, vehicle detection, line crossing, etc.) run directly on the camera itself — no internet connection required for the detection to function. However, internet connectivity is required if you want to receive push notifications on your phone when AI events are detected, or if you want remote access to view footage from outside your property. For properties without reliable internet, local alerting via integration with an alarm system is an alternative.

Absolutely. My Security Guy regularly upgrades legacy analogue systems to modern IP-based installations, and replaces outdated or failing cameras within existing systems. In many cases, existing cabling can be reused if it is in good condition, which reduces upgrade costs. We assess your current system, identify what can be retained and what needs replacement, and provide a clear upgrade path that fits your budget.

Load shedding is a reality in South Africa, and My Security Guy plans for it as standard. All CCTV installations include appropriately sized UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) units to keep cameras and recorders operational through standard 2-4 hour load shedding schedules. For extended outages or high-criticality installations, battery backup can be supplemented with generator integration or larger battery banks.

Storage duration depends on the number of cameras, recording resolution, frame rate, and hard drive capacity. A typical residential system stores 7-14 days of continuous footage. Commercial systems are often configured for 30-90 days depending on compliance or operational requirements. Storage capacity can be increased by adding larger hard drives to the NVR, reducing resolution on lower-priority cameras, or implementing motion-only recording instead of continuous recording.

Yes. My Security Guy specialises in integrated security ecosystems. Your CCTV system can be linked to your alarm system so that an alarm activation triggers high-resolution recording. It can integrate with your access control system to automatically bookmark footage when access events occur. And it can link to your gate automation to record every vehicle entry and exit. Integration creates a layered security environment where every system reinforces the others.

My Security Guy provides CCTV installation and maintenance services across Johannesburg and surrounding areas, including Sandton, Bryanston, Rosebank, Dainfern, Hyde Park, Randburg, Bedfordview, Midrand, Fourways, Waterfall, Krugersdorp, and beyond. We serve residential estates, commercial properties, industrial facilities, and retail environments throughout the greater Johannesburg region.

All Provision-ISR hardware carries a manufacturer warranty (typically 2-3 years depending on the product). Installation workmanship is covered by My Security Guy’s own warranty. After installation, you have direct access to our support team for troubleshooting, remote assistance, and scheduled maintenance. We also offer structured maintenance agreements that include regular site visits, firmware updates, and proactive servicing to keep your system performing reliably over the long term.
