About a month ago my wife and I were looking to install a new electric fence at our property. We didn’t know any contractors and weren’t persuaded by our neighbourhood WhatsApp recommendations. So we looked online. When we do this – for anything, electricians, plumbers – we usually query between three to five contractors and ask them for a guideline price so we have an idea what we’d be in for. We’ve found the first responders are usually the best. Those that give us a story about how little we know or how they need to see the site first, we discard. Quintin was the first to respond to us. He chatted to me while busy on another site, got what we wanted and said he’d email us an indicative price that evening, which he did. We already met with him at site by the time most other contractors were first responding. During the walk-through I got the impression Quintin would give us exactly what we wanted but, because of the nature of our site, he gently made suggestions to the contrary. For example, we have an odd bit of wall that sticks out of the normal boundary circumference and he said it would be easy to electrify it instead of leaving it open and exposed as we intended. The suggestions were based on his experience. Then he left it for us to decide. He could also be persuaded. He prefers a fence angled outwards because it presents a greater obstacle and deterrent. We preferred upright because of aesthetics. He agreed about the aesthetics but still preferred the greater deterrent. He ultimately installed upright because that’s what we wanted. Also, the neighbour’s fence was in the way of what we intended and, without getting complicated, he came up with a solution of bracing our fence without compromising. After speaking with him, Quintin was the obvious choice. We appointed him that evening. At the time we had other contractors paving and installing gates. After Quintin and his team got going the other contractors more than once got in his way and destroyed parts of his installation. Not that we heard about it. He resolved the issue directly with them (and in such a way that no one became hostile) and by the time we learned about it everything had been sorted. He’s a team player. Also, after the site visit Quintin gave us our price and stuck to it. There was none of this being told afterwards that this wasn’t part of the quote and that wasn’t included. If there was an additional cost he told us about it up front. We wanted stainless steel but because our boundary wall is so long he recommended a larger energizer – a smaller one would work but it would struggle. We knew all of this going in. My wife and I never considered that our boundary wall with its columns and parapets created odd angles and shapes. It didn’t occur to us that matching an upright fence to it and where it met the sliding gates would require major gymnastics. Quintin had to bend standard uprights to match the angles and shapes and ultimately our fence looks and fits our wall like a well-made suit – no shortcuts. As a last note, we have an existing Ajax alarm system linked to ADT on our property. Quintin’s fence installation needed to integrate with it. We were doubtful it could be done. Sure, it was theoretically possible, but practically we doubted it would work as we imagined. But it can be done. And it does work like we imagined. I was with Quintin at the final integration, when he was on the phone with Ajax, and he knew as much if not more about integrating fence and alarm than the Ajax representatives. Quintin’s fence will probably last 100 years so we’ll probably never get to use him again. But we can definitely recommend him. We hope this helps you in your search. Werner & Sharon

Not Sure What You Need? Let’s Build It Together.

Every property is different — and so is every threat. We’ll guide you through a personalised risk assessment and propose a system that makes sense for your space, budget, and lifestyle.

FAQ

It’s completely understandable to research options online — but the reality is that no two properties are the same. Whether it’s a home, garden, office, or complex, every space has unique vulnerabilities and priorities. Many clients overlook key factors like blind spots, power backup needs, perimeter layout, or entry point exposure.

That’s why we recommend a professional on-site assessment. At My Security Guy, we ask the right questions, listen to your concerns, and tailor a solution that fits — whether it’s a single system or a layered combination of technologies.

Let us help you secure your space properly — book a free assessment and we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Yes — we have extensive experience working on both residential and commercial properties. From freestanding homes and secure complexes to shopping centres, factories, and office parks, we’ve done it all. We’ve also built strong relationships with trusted suppliers and partners, allowing us to offer the right solutions for virtually any environment.

No matter the property type, we’ll design and install a system that works — reach out today for expert guidance.

Yes, absolutely — and we make sure it’s set up correctly for you.

Some of the systems we install, like Ajax and Provision-ISR, come with remote access functionality built in. Others may require additional modules to enable smartphone control and live viewing. The good news is that we’ve worked with a wide range of systems — and as long as there’s a stable internet connection at the property and on your device, we can ensure reliable remote access and control.

We’ll make sure you’re always connected — talk to us about your remote monitoring options.

Yes — with the right backup solution, your security system can remain fully operational during power outages.

Most electronic security systems — including alarms, access control, electric fencing, and CCTV — can be equipped with battery backup. Each system has different power requirements, so the type and cost of backup will vary. We offer tailored backup options to keep your property protected even during load-shedding or unexpected outages.

Let us help you choose the right backup solution for your system — ask us how to stay secure when the power goes out.

Yes — we can service, repair, or upgrade systems even if we didn’t install them originally.

Once we assess the condition and capabilities of your current system, we’ll let you know whether a full upgrade is necessary or if we can simply expand on what’s already there. If the system still functions well and meets your needs, we’ll enhance it with compatible components rather than replace it unnecessarily.

Let’s take a look at what you already have — we’ll advise you on the most cost-effective way to upgrade your security.

That’s a tough one to answer without knowing the specifics — and for good reason.

The total cost of a security installation depends on several key factors: the size of the property, the type of systems required, the level of functionality you want, and the complexity of the installation. Because no two sites or client needs are the same, we don’t offer generic pricing ranges that can be misleading.

The best way to get an accurate quote is to let us assess your property — we’ll tailor a system to match your needs and budget.

Yes — all our installations are done in full compliance with the regulations set out by South Africa’s private security industry authorities.

We never cut corners. Every system is installed the right way, the first time — not just to meet legal and safety standards, but to ensure easy servicing down the line and hassle-free insurance claims. Whether we’re handling the job or another provider comes in later, our work remains clean, traceable, and regulation-compliant.

You can trust that your installation is by the book — and built to last. Let’s do it right from the start.

Quality takes time — and we don’t believe in rushing.

While the exact timeframe depends on the size and complexity of the system, most standard residential installations take between 1 to 2 days to complete when starting from scratch. Larger properties or more advanced integrations may take longer, but we always aim to work efficiently without compromising on the quality and neatness of the installation.

We’ll provide a clear timeline after your assessment — and we’ll stick to it. Let’s schedule your consultation.

Not always — it depends on the system and the features you need.

For systems that include remote access, notifications, or cloud backups (like Ajax or Provision-ISR), an internet connection is required. However, the core functionality of most alarm and CCTV systems — such as local recording, sirens, or triggers — can still operate without WiFi. If there’s no internet on-site, we’ll design a solution that works offline or recommend 4G modules where needed.

We’ll assess your setup and make sure your system performs at its best — with or without WiFi.

Absolutely — we design all our systems with scalability in mind.

Whether you want to start small and expand later or add new areas of coverage as your property evolves, we make it easy to integrate additional cameras, sensors, remotes, beams, or access points. Most of our systems — especially Ajax and Provision-ISR — are modular, so upgrades are seamless.

You don’t have to do everything at once — we’ll grow your system with you, step by step.
